 Hello fellow Pittsburgh poets!

I don't think I've ever posted here, but I'm hosting a reading with an open mic, so I thought this would be the perfect time to start!

Info:

Join us for the first ever Tin Front Reading! Enjoy delicious coffees, teas, and vegetarian treats while listening to poetry and fiction. The reading begins at 7pm with works by Mark Cullen, Sophie Klahr, Madeleine Barnes, and Laura Miller. We'll be ending with an open mic, so if you have some work you want to share, this is the time!

Location: Tin Front Cafe 216 8th Ave Homestead 15120

I hope to see you there!

For those who love (or hate) HOWL/ginsberg, and, accessing the Carnegie Library [Dec. 16th, 2009|05:53 pm]

My friend Karen Lillis, a writer & poet completing her library sciences Master's degree at Pitt, put together this pair of videos describing how to use the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in order to access information.

She used Allen Ginsberg's HOWL as the 'research object'. She's assembled a great set of resources for navigating the CLP for more info, and, a ton of great info about the poem itself.

Interviews with the staff are fabulous as well ...

ARTISTS INSPIRED BY JEFF BUCKLEY
JASON KIRIN

Some call him the "Ted Nugent of Poetry" others call him the "Frankenstein of Dead Poets." Either way, currently living in South Oakland after finishing his literature degree and signed languages certification at the University of Pittsburgh, twenty-six year old spoken word artist, sculptor, juggler and special education teacher Jason Kirin (www.myspace.com/jasonkirin), along with classical composer Blake Ragghianti (http://www.myspace.com/skyloftmusic) and musician Paul Dvorchak collaborated to give praise poetry to the one and only Jeff Buckley via typewriter percussion and a labyrinthine conglomerate of Jeff Buckley lyrics and original poetry.

Jason Kirin is also currently one third of the performing arts group The Typewriter Girls, (
www.typewritergirls.com") who can often be found performing at the Modern Formations Art Gallery (www.modernformations.com/) in Pittsburgh, catch them live on July 6th and they also have a show at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on July 20th.

Jason Kirin, along with the Typewriter Girls will also be seen performing at the upcoming annual Jack Kerouac Festival at the Grand Midway Hotel (www.Iliveinahauntedhotel.com) in Windber Pennsylvania this coming August.
